Montgomery Heights Children’s Care Centre is a home for orphaned, vulnerable and destitute children in Zimbabwe.
Taking in newborn, often HIV+ or abandoned children, the home not only provides much-needed care, but they also ensure the kids get an education all the way through to adulthood.
Montgomery Heights is run as far as possible on a family pattern, rather than as an institution. For many of the children, this is the only home and family that they know and after leaving they often keep in contact and come back to visit.
The home is situated on 35 acres of land, some of which is used to grow food to help towards meals. As well as houses for the kids, the staff and their families live on the property too, with each staff member offered a small portion of land to grow their own crops.
Some of the ways Croxsons has supported our charity partner include helping fund a new pick-up truck so they can take the kids to school (7km away), purchasing the majority of materials to construct a new accommodation block (which was built entirely by the staff) and providing upgraded and more hygienic kitchen facilities.
Although a small gesture, we also funded almost 50 pairs of shoes for both primary and high-school kids. They get through one pair per term, and generally have to walk to and from school.
